1. The Care and Cleaning of Stainless Steel

This five-page handbook is a handy guide for both industrial and household stainless steel cleaning. Covers effective cleaning methods for     routine cleaning, fingerprints and smears, stubborn stains and discoloration, grease, blood, burnt-on or baked-on foods, and grease and oil.

2. Design Guidelines for the Selection and Use of Stainless Steel

Overview of a broad range of stainless steels; their compositions, properties, fabrication and use. Offers guidance on selecting the proper stainless steel by weighing four elements: corrosion or heat resistance; mechanical properties; fabrication operations; and total cost.

3. Stainless Steel Fabrication

Describes fabrication methods, such as cutting, shearing, blanking, bending and forming. Compares stainless to mild steel with suggested fabrication methods. Descaling, removing mild discoloration, and the definition of passivation are discussed. Comments on handling, care in the shop, and cleaning procedures.

4. Stainless Steel Fasteners

Details selecting stainless steel fasteners with a description of the basic types. Discusses the criteria for choosing the right stainless steel presented with the typical properties and some thoughts on designing for optimum corrosion resistance.

5.  Stainless Steel for Machining

Describes the standard grades of stainless steel that have been specially designed to improve machinability, including types 203, 303, 430F, 416 and 429F.

6. Specifications for Stainless Steel

Provides the designer, engineer, specification writer, producer and user of stainless steel with a listing of all current ASTM standards. These standards are listed by mill shape and by product. Stainless types also are listed, along with a selection of applicable society, government and military specifications.

7. Welding of Stainless Steels and Other Joining Methods

The purpose of this booklet is to help designers and manufacturing engineers achieve a better understanding of the welding characteristics of stainless steels, so they may exercise better control over the finished products with respect to welding. In addition to welding, other ancillary joining methods are discussed, including soldering and brazing.
